The guards are started to open up last week at the academy. As the basics of straight armbar, omoplata and triangle are understood we ventured into opening up the guards and attacking our opponent. The first series that we explored was opening the guard into an overhook. The first three options given were choke to armbar to omoplata. What sounded complicated at first was clearly explained and everybody was able to execute the moves. Some people started to explore more options from the position. If you plan on stopping by this week get ready for takedowns. Cody is teaching and starting out with a double leg takedowns. Bring extra water it is going to be a workout.

Hip Escapes

Categories: Academy News

Hip escape was the theme of the week. We covered proper hand position when side mounted and fully mounted. Building upon last weeks class we used the Upa escape to set up the elbow escape. The warm up drills used this week blended in nicely with the material covered. Class size at the new facility is beginning to increase but there is plenty of room for new students. If you are new to this martial art you can call for an appointment or you are more than welcome to walk in unannounced. You will not be stranger for long.

We will be having class on Memorial Day from 8:00 am – 9:30 am. There will be no 6:00 pm class. This is being done so you can get your work out in without your jiu-jitsu addiction affecting your holiday. There will be no need to miss a parade or quit a game of horseshoes at the picinic to attend class. If you are wondering who needs to participate in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu listen to your co-workers Tuesday when they complain about being sore or injured from a game of badminton or softball. If playing a game with children at the Memorial Day Picinic leaves you out of breath give me a call. It is time that you hit the mats at Spring Grove Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and find out that we are far more than a martial art.
